BOO! has three wholly owned subsidiary media companies in its stable, one of which is Campus Media.
Dave, a graduate of CPUT and UCT, is an entrepreneur with a strong track record in the media industry. He was playing soccer in the NSL first division when he was recruited to work at SA Sports Illustrated – his first job in the media industry in his early twenties. He went on to become a founding director of IOL – Independent Online – and also founded a business called POP, a media company that was a subsidiary of Old Mutual, where his business pioneered advertising in shopping malls, before it was sold to Primedia. He started BOO! 20 twenty years ago – they are known as innovative thought leaders in the SA industry.
Campus Media was started as a solution to the #FeesMustFall initiative; it was a business with a vision and a purpose to create a media platform that had not been successfully implemented before. Today, Campus media is very proud of the fact that in its first five/six years of operation, it provided more than R20 million in net income to its current university partners as third-stream income. It also employs a host of students at each of the universities. Campus Media has scaled itself to build a portfolio of partner universities that includes UCT, Wits, UJ, Stellenbosch, UP, UKZN, Rhodes, UWC, NWU, and CPUT. It has an incredible list of case studies, with ambitions to grow the business further. The Campus TV network is a particularly sophisticated content platform used by universities to communicate with the students.
